The valley is situated 11,000 feet above sea level and falls under the Gangotri National Park in Uttarkashi district. It is 315 Km from Dehradun. You can reach Uttarkashi from Dehradun after which a 4-5 hour drive is required to reach Gangotri. The Government of Uttarakhand has put a restriction on the number of vehicles entering the valley per day and one cannot take their own vehicle to the place. Entry is permitted only through the six forest vehicles which carry four passengers each.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The spectacular valley is a cold desert like area and has a landscape which is similar to Ladakh.<\/p>\n

\u2013 It just opened to tourists in May 2015 after remaining out of bounds for 53 years post the 1962 war.<\/p>\n
